To celebrate the start of Artober, on October 1, 2016, NowPlayingNashville.com partnered with the Metro Nashville Arts Commission and 5th Avenue of the Arts to create a photo essay and time lapse video during the First Saturday Art Crawl on 5th Avenue. We asked Art Crawl Attendees to finish one of three statements:

“Art is…”

“I create…”

“Nashville needs art because…”

The results were fun and inspiring. Answers ranged from Art is… “Life” to “Whatever You Want it To Be.” The I Create… statement generated “my own world” and “laughter,” while Nashville Needs Arts Because… brought both economic and civic engagement responses. While we were busy taking photos of all the participants in the project, we had two iPads going filming 5th Ave in time lapse, one facing The Arts Company, where we were set up, and one positioned in the back of the Parnassus Books Bookmobile, AKA “Peggy,” facing down 5th Ave toward Union (and the Chet Atkins Statue¬†… we used a Chet and Jerry Reed song in video)).

We’re thankful to all who opened up their hearts and participated in the project, the 5th Ave of Arts for letting us set up shop on street, and to Grace from Parnassus for letting use the back window of the bus. There is an entire month of art to experience during Artober. Find out more at ArtoberNashville.com.
